Planning for a multimedia tour examining the history and legacy of San Francisco's New Deal-era murals.

New Deal Murals of San Francisco will use the latest locative media technology to provide audiences with the background and national context to appreciate these historical and cultural treasures, literally with the touch of a button. We will inspire people to actively explore the murals while guided by in-depth, location-specific tours accessed on their cell phones and other handheld media devices. The mural tours, which will include scholarship of prominent academics, will provide context through which these historical sites can be fully understood and appreciated, and allow audiences to draw connections to today. NCPB, through KQED, Northern California's premier public broadcaster for more than 50 years, has decades of experience educating and inspiring our community. By making locative media a major distribution channel for this humanities content, we will break new ground in making information about America's historic places as relevant and accessible as possible.
