An Endowed Professorship in Civil War Era Studies, thereby freeing funds to support a new tenure-track position in war and memory studies.

Gettysburg College requests from the National Endowment for the Humanities a Challenge Grant of $500,000 to endow an existing faculty position in Civil War Era Studies. NEH funds will be matched 3:1 by $1,500,000 in non-federal funds. Funds freed up from the creation of the endowment will support a new position in war and memory studies to enhance Gettysburg's interdisciplinary minor in Civil War Era Studies. The new position will complement our existing programs and strengthen the College's distinctiveness as a location for the study of issues and themes related to the American Civil War.
