Applicant desires a nine-month fellowship to write biography of Laurence Stallings. No major work about Stallings now exists. Stallings importance stems from his realism which showed war was hell--for being unromantic about war. His play, What Price Glory? was based on his own experiences at Belleau Wood. Stallings is the only American author to base all his major work on war. He wrote essays, short stories, novels, dramas, newspaper articles, film scenarios and interpretive histories.
