To complete a book examining the role the humanities can play in exposing and overcoming the limitations of Western man's dualistic modes of thought--his habit of reducing multidimensional reality to simplistic dualisms, e.g. man vs. nature. The focus of the book is on the revolt against dualism in Gerard Manley Hopkin's poetry, drawing, notes, on painting, nature journal, etc. The study will be a unique one in that it will support the contention that the humanities can make a real contribution toward the solution of basic envrionmental problems of national concern.
