To study those 17th century writers, a minority, for whom the praise of childishness was a means for rebelling against the dominant intellectual ideals of their day. To plan an undergraduate course on the literary images of childhood. Through examining an era's interpretation of childhood we should come to a better understanding of that era's basic assumptions about the nature of man.
