To examine the Restoration stage as a musical theatre and to assess the potential of music to enhance and to damage the spoken play. To locate as much of the music originally associated with the plays as possible, thereby making it more feasible for directors and producers to revive these stage works which originally included some of the most important music of the middle baroque.
