The purchase of environmental monitoring
equipment and supplies to help preserve 160 linear feet of archival records;
the collection includes correspondence, exhibition materials, newspaper
articles, artwork, and photographs pertaining to artists, authors, and
humanities scholars affiliated with the university or based in western
Pennsylvania.
The purpose of this project is
to further support the short-term, mid-range, and long-term recommendations of
survey reports conducted by consultants Rachel Onuf and Rachel Wetzel. The survey included assessments of the
collections storage and handling, environmental conditions in the storage
areas, emergency preparedness, and security, among other issues. The humanities collections in the IUP Special
Collections and University Archives were assessed in their entirety, and requested
storage furniture, preservation equipment, and archival supplies were specified
and justified in the attached consultant's assessment survey.
