Archival Training and Professional Development
FAIN: PG-51052-10
Museum of Flight Foundation (Seattle, WA 98108-4097)
Amy Heidrick (Project Director: May 2009 to February 2012)
Funding supports staff training in archival preservation procedures to improve care for the museum's aerospace and aviation history collection, including pilot's logs, maps, charts, photographs, oral histories, art, and artifacts. The archive also holds the personal papers of several aviation pioneers, including Donald Douglas, the founder of the Douglas Aircraft Company.
The Modern Archives Institute will provide our Museum professional staff with extensive, high quality information regarding professional archival practices and techniques. The two-week program includes lectures, discussions and workshops with experts in the field of archival management, as well as hands-on experience and practice, and site visits to National Archives and Records Administration facilities and the Library of Congress to view these techniques in practice.
