To translate a section of Martin Heidegger's complete works, The Basic Problem of Phenomonology. The lectures be translated represent Heidegger's early writings, preparatory to his opus magnum, Being and Time. They have been regarded as the "missing link" in his philosophic development, and the translation will not only facilitate the understanding of this classic, but also promises to inaugurate a new phase in the interpretation of Heidegger's work. He has influenced many modern thinkers, not only in his own field, but in fields of literary criticism, art history and philosophy of science.
