My project is a biography of Amy Lowell. Although she has been the subject of four full-length biographies, crucial aspects of her life and work have not been adequately explored. I will be drawing on the scholarly work of the last two decades to present a much more nuanced and complex portrait of the person and the poet. I plan to employ my extensive experience as a biographer not only to critique the work of previous biographers but also to explore Lowell's landmark contribution to literary biography in her monumental two-volume biography of John Keats. I have identified significant new primary sources that I will be integrating into a narrative of one of America's most important early twentieth century poets and critics.
