This grant would add $200,000 to the endowment fund. These funds would be used to strengthen the museums short-term exhibit program. Specifically the grant would provide funds to underwrite: curator honoria, research, publications, and lectures. The matching funds would be raised during the museum's current endowment campaign. The short-term exhibition program brings scholars to the museum as guest curators to work with staff to develop humanities based exhibits on local history topics. The exhibits often feature accompanying books which further expand on the exhibition themes. Together these programs represent a serious effort on the part of the museum to apply current scholarship to the interpretation of the local history of McLean County, Illinois. The grant would also fund a symposia on issues of scholarship and museum exhibit development. This goal of this symposia will be to develop critical approaches to the evaluation of exhibition programs. |
