Endowment for staffing, programming, and digital technology acquisitions in a program focused on the role of African Americans in the founding era of the republic.

Colonial Williamsburg seeks to establish a permanent endowment to broaden the research and understanding of the American Revolutionary era and our nation's founding principles and ideals, which motivated the struggle to realize the promise of freedom. This project will build upon Colonial Williamsburg's existing efforts to develop new initiatives that enhance humanities education programming. Specifically, NEH funding will allow the Foundation to strengthen an important aspect of its educational curriculum, Education for Citizenship, by further exploring the role of African Americans in the founding of the American Republic, the struggle to end slavery and racial discrimination, and the fight for all Americans to obtain citizenship and secure liberty, justice and opportunity.
