I shall provide a critical text and translation of the poems of Michele Marullo, which will include his books of epigrams, his love poetry addressed to a woman he calls Neaera, his famous "Hymni naturales", which are a syncretic work, infused with Lucretian, neoplatonic and Christian elements, and a fragmentary "Institutiones principales." The book will also contain a brief introduction, touching on the author's life and works, the date and context of the work translated, and a brief assessment of its sources, models, significance and influence. An "apparatus criticus" recording significant variants, an "apparatus fontium" identifying principal sources,an index and short bibliography will also be included. |
