I will create an online database to teach students in my two-semester World Civilizations course how to use war memorials and national memory to compare culture and perception around the world and throughout history. My students will research memorials in their lessons on each culture and time period and will learn to see common features and differences in presentation, artwork, scale, visual impact, building materials, and meaning. All of these features are elements of the humanities and teach about the human condition in times of conflict and suffering. By allowing students in my classes as well as instructors and students from around the world to continually submit additions to the site, I will create a true global learning experience in the humanities.
