From May 13 through October 23, 2016, The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) will present an exhibition that examines the art-historical and horticultural significance of the popular American garden subjects that prevailed during several decades of flourishing Impressionist practice in the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As a highlight of NYBG's 125th anniversary celebrations, this exhibition will also serve as a lens to consider the Garden's role as a constantly evolving landscape and idyllic representation of nature. The Garden requests a $460,000 Implementation Grant to support an exhibition budget of $4,836,278, including a new two-year full-time position in the public humanities and travel of a portion of the show to the Taubman Museum of Art. |
