The Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, in partnership with the National Geographic Society, respectfully requests a National Endowment for the Humanities Chairman?s Special Award of $1 million within the category of Implementation Grants for Museums and Historical Organizations. NEH funding would enable the National Geographic Society, in collaboration with the Asian Art Museum and three U.S. art institutions, to organize, design, and present an extraordinary traveling exhibition, The Lost Treasures of Afghanistan. The exhibition will travel to four major museums in a 17-month period: The National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC; the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, and a fourth venue. The exhibition will be enhanced by a variety of talks and public educational and art programs for children and adults, educational films, a multi-faceted web component for broad public access, an audio tour, and a scholarly catalogue. |
