A preservation assessment of organizational records and manuscript collections documenting gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people, organizations, and events in North Texas, including the center's services to individuals and families affected by HIV and AIDS.

The Phil Johnson Historic Archives and Research Library is seeking $6,000 in funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities in order to retain the services of a preservation consultant who will conduct a preservation site survey to advise the Archives on best methods for arranging and preserving our collections. The preservation site survey will address building, environmental, and disaster planning concerns; review the overall condition of collections; evaluate procedures and policies as they apply to preservation; and provide recommendations for improving storage and handling practices. The survey report will identify short- and long-term priorities for preservation in our institution. Amigos Library Services, Inc. has agreed to be the preservation consultant for this project should it be funded and this application includes supporting documents from Amigos.
