Implementation of a three-year after-school program that engages middle and high school students in conducting historical research and producing videos for public distribution about Brooklyn's past.

BRIC/Brooklyn Information and Culture is seeking a $175,000 grant to support Reveal the Real: Kids Uncover the Secrets of Brooklyn a unique after school project aimed at engaging middle and high school students in historical research and discovery. The project will center on after school student groups decoding the secret of a specific object, building or document that is significant in Brooklyn's history. The project will be videotaped and edited into three documentary videos for cablecast by BRIC's media division BCAT/Brooklyn Community Access Television and widely disseminated through showings at libraries, community centers and through distribution of DVD's alogn with a learning guide to area schools. This unique program will involve BRIC's BCAT program, middle and high school students, the Brooklyn Historical Society, Brooklyn Public Library and Brooklyn Museum engaging directly with some of the country's leading humanities scholars.
