My project will be the first volume of a 5-part series (The Symphonic Repertoire) being published by Indiana University Press. In addition to analytical studies of 23 composers and essays on symphonic composition in Europe, it will present a reconsideration of the standard symphonic narrative. I am the main editor and will also be responsible for writing 30% of a 500 page book. In my sections I will consider a number of issues, including national identity and musical style, definitions of convention, reception history, and patronage. |
