Production of a two-hour documentary film examining the decades-long struggles and triumphs of Chinese immigrants in America in the period leading up to and following the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act.

"Chinese Exclusion," a two-hour documentary film directed by Ric Burns for PBS, will trace the history, meaning and consequences of the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act in the U.S. Chronicling the major influx of Chinese immigrants to the United States during the California gold rush, their tireless labors for extremely low wages, and the series of laws against the race that culminated in the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act, which banned Chinese laborers from entering the United States. The film will explore the impact on the lives of Chinese Americans and the course of American immigration.
