Digitization of 100,000 pages of Arkansas newspapers published between 1819 and 1922, as part of the state’s participation in the National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP).

The Arkansas State Archives (ASA) proposes to select, digitize, and make available to the Library of Congress 100,000 pages of its state's historic newspapers, published from 1819-1922 as part of the National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP). The ASA holds the largest concentration of microfilmed Arkansas newspapers from this period. For this project, Arkansas will partner with its neighbor institution, the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH), for technical aspects of this project. Since the MDAH has completed successfully two NDNP cycles, this collaboration will afford Arkansas an efficient, standards-based digitization process. The ASA holds 757 titles from the target period. The newspapers represent state, regional and local coverage; often represent a particular political affiliation; and cover all parts of the state, with geographical publishing patterns reflecting community and commercial development in the state.
