A project to strengthen the teaching of Shakespeare to undergraduates by leveraging the educational potential of the NEH-funded public humanities program, “First Folio!: The Book that Gave Us Shakespeare.”
Applicant's Description: The Folger Shakespeare Library proposes that the NEH support the "Teaching Shakespeare to Undergraduates" program which will provide microgrants for college teaching workshops in association with the Folger's national touring exhibition, First Folio! The Book That Gave Us Shakespeare. The Folger proposes three steps of engagement: 1) convene as a community of practitioners at the Folger Shakespeare Library for collaborative conversation about teaching
agendas, strategies, tactics, and resources; 2) award individual grants through a competitive process of up to 24 workshops or initiatives at local colleges and universities; and 3) collect contributions of faculty deliberations and sample teaching exercises to a website.
