To create a dictionary of the Middle Ages which will comprise 10 to 12 volumes covering the period 500-1500 A.D. The format will be that of a dictionary (A-Z) within each of 3 divisions —Biography, Definitions, and Topical Essays — with articles ranging from short biographies and definitions to essays of perhaps 10,000 words on major topics. There will be coverage of the Latin West, the Slavic World, Byzantium, and Islam (up to the border with Persia.)'
