To support preparation of materials to train scholars preparing to conduct original research on China. The manuals will be language training aids for independent study.

To produce 10 research manuals which will serve in training of scholars preparing to conduct original research on China. Manuals will act both as language-training aids for seminar-level class- work or self-study and as guides into the intellectual and methodological problems encountered upon beginning research in a particular subfield of China studies. Manuals be will revised on the basis of accumulated criticism and offered to a press for formal publication.
