Increasing Art Appreciation Through Self-Instructional Packages

To design and develop audio-visual, self-instructional packages in art appreciation and an accompanying workbook as supplementary learning aids for a humanities course entitled "Survey of Western Culture". The purpose of these materials is to help students, who generally have no background in the visual arts, to acquire an understanding of the major developments in western art, including a critical awareness of the artists' techniques to achieve a specific effect and to differentiate between major art styles on the basis of intrinsic aesthetic properties.
