To institute a new graduate-level program in European history, literature, and ideas. Program objectives are: 1) to combine many disciplines to offer a unified approach to the study of the humanities; 2) to formulate and apply new methods for the study of the humanities; 3) to discover new ways to teach graduate students and to coordinate graduate and undergraduate education; 4) to train teachers capable of teaching the broad spectrum of the humanities.
