H. Brett McLendy (Project Director: January 1975 to present)

To develop a model history course for non-transfer and occupational students of the four Oahu Community Colleges. The grant will also defray the cost of developing instructional materials and will provide for consultants. The course, Contemporary Civilization, will consist of two introductory units on What History Is and History and the Hawaiian Culture, and a set of contemporary problems. Many of the students involved have educational disabilities so they will receive individualized instruction. Experimental learning techniques and materials will be employed.
