The Myth of the Martyred Warrior in World Literature

To study the mythologizing factors involved in legends of the martyred warrior, and the psychological need for societies to do so. Starting with the account of Custer's "Last Stand" and the Battle of the Little Bighorn, the grantee will investigate similar legendary accounts of past battles and past heroes.
