To synthesize what is known about Chimoran society from their earliest cultural manifestations in the archaeological record through their rise to statehood, and trace their vicissitudes from the time of Inca conquest to the present a study of the cultural continuum (of over better than two millena) of this people to the present when the retention of their ethnicity and self-identity are in serious doubt should provide insight on the cultural and psychological depth of these constructs, which have become an ever more conscious concern of the multi-ethnic nation states of which our own is a conspicuous example.
