Japanese Writers and Artists in France

To examine the importance of France and French culture on twentieth c. Japanese artists and intellectuals focusing on the attitudes and works of six important modern Japanese writers, poets, and painters whose impact on their own culture remains significant. These figures will be studied in terms of the contribution of France to the creation of a number of important Japanese cultural and aesthetic attitudes.
