Medieval Lyric Poetry and Social History

Grantee is undertaking a study in three areas: medieval lyric poetry in Provencal and French, the social history of medieval France, and the literary history of the medieval pastourelle. Grantee is now in the process of elaborating a critical approach to medieval lyric, an approach which acknowledges the autonomy of medieval fiction but places the lyric within its historical context of performance. Grantee will write a Literary History of the Medieval Pastourelle from the research and findings in this area.
