To produce a book which uses linguistic, medical and iconographic sources to view the underworld in Barcelona between 1820 and 1900. The book deals with "Els miserables; the masses of poor people who fled to Barcelona during the 19th century civil wars and who were important to the development of political and literary movements in the city.
