Book on Athenian topography to be published by Methuen Books. Athens has attracted particular attention from students of urban history in recent years because it is one of the few large, industrial cities of classical antiquity of great historical importance with material limited enough to be investigated adequately by an individual scholar, and an abundance of literary material to enlarge on archeological findings. Study will update the great German studies (1931) of the topography of ancient Athens which do not include important discoveries of pre-and post-war excavations. An updated study of the field is especially important since the layout of architecture of Athens casts new lights on problems facing modern city planners. Fellow previously updated Judeich's bibliographic Topographie von Athen (last edited in 1931), to include all works in Athenian topography to 1960. Current study would cover findings through 1970. Fellow to do research in Athens.
