FAIN: FB-10600-70

George N. Green
University of Texas, Arlington (Arlington, TX 76019-9800)

History of organized labor in Texas since the beginning of New Deal--organizing drives of the depression and war years, signficant strikes and other labor-managment difficulties, union activities since World War II, role of unions in politics, race relations, and urban life. Fellow believes that unions are greatest single organized force advocating progressive social legislation in US, particularly in Texas. Research would familiarize fellow with records of Texas Labor Collection, necessary for a graduate seminar he will offer either in 20th-century Texas history (emphasizing Texas labor and politics) or in US labor history.
