The Literature of American History

The seminar will explore the most important writings, particularly recent ones, on significant topics and themes in American history from the 17th century to the present. The emphasis will be on changing and contrasting interpretations rather than on actual historical facts. Each member of the seminar will serve as a specialist for a particular topic, will read more widely in that area, and prepare a historiographical to be distributed to the other members.
