A course in literary analysis and practical methodology, focusing on the relationship between literary structures and ideologies. Stendhal, Balzac, Hugo, Flaubert, Zola, Guilloux, Celine, Sartre, Aragon and the "New Novelists" will be examined, Aim is to apply and test various approaches to fiction through close textual analyses. Tensions between social and individual values will be examined with particular care in order to relate the manifestations of an art form to a specific intellectual and historical background and to assess its participation in the history of ideas.
