To complete a study on the implications of technology as seen by Americans from the Revolution to the beginning of the 20th century. The study examines the debate over the introduction of domestic manufactures in the Revolutionary period; Emerson's dialoge on the impact of technology upon the American imagination; and utopian and dystopian novels a the end of the 19th century.
