To examine the influence of the Sunday School movement in Great Britian (1783-1802) upon the development of literature, specifically the Victorian novel. The Sunday School Movement produced large numbers of new readers with specific literary expectation and ethical canons of judgment. This study will trace the inculcation of various tenets of the Movement into the literary mainstream.
