To examine the international symbolist movement between 1885 and 1925 as a milestone in literary history, aesthetics, and spiritual orientation. Emphasis will be placed on an historical overview of the movement, on studies of its major leaders, on thematic and linguistic developments, and on the emergence of literary conventions.
