To examine the value systems of settlers in 2 quite different colonial societies, Virginia and Massachusetts Bay, in an attempt to relate those values systems to the creation and development of specific social institutions. Intended to provide teachers of American history an opportunity to acquire familiarity with the uses of cultural anthropology for the study of colonial American society.
