Tragedy

To examine the great tragedies from Aeschylus to the present day. Some of the questions to be discussed are: Is there a single genre, or is "tragedy" simply a term applied loosely to a variety of other works? Can works other than plays, certain movies, novels, operas, profitably be discussed as tragedies? Discussions will focus both on the interpretation of individual plays and on the search for a theory.
