Summer Seminar: Verbal and Visual Texts: Eighteenth-Century England

The seminar will develop an interdisciplinary approach for the analysis of major literary and graphic works of eighteenth- century England. Topics will include: emblems, mythology, history, and history painting; portraiture (heraldry, conversation pieces, "characters," biographies); comic history and genre; topography and cityscape; landscape gardening; emblematic landscape, and Romantic landscape.
