To introduce college teachers of undergraduate courses in the humanities and social sciences to semiotics as the basis for the structuring of humanistic studies. The seminar director expects to demonstrate that accurate formulation of the pivotal role of verbal and other sign systems is an indispensable first step to reformation of humanistic curricula in general, and toward a heightened awareness of the holistic force of semiotics.
