Research on the antiwar thought and activities of six American radicals--Eugene Debs, Max Eastman, Morris Hillquit, John Reed, Emma Goldman, William D. Haywood--who apposed U.S. involvement in World War I. Emphasis on the ideological background of their opposition to the conflict, their antiwar activities, the consequences of their dissent and the reason why their efforts met with failure. Fellow hopes to provide a general awareness of the ideological bases of and historical precedents for contemporary dissent over U.S. involvement in Vietnam.
