To study millennialistic writings in the colonial period of American History. Some questions to be answered are: why was American regarded as the New Jerusalem? In what manner was millennialism, which encouraged the chosen people to work to redeem the social order, linked with liberal theology? How related were millenial and secular appeals to "higher Law?"
