To write a definitive edition of the poetry of Christina Rossetti, whose importance as a serious, masterful lyric poet has been recognized by the recend trend in criticism to examine her work for its pyschological and allegorical implications. To date there is no definitive edition of her poems. This project will also provide insight into some of the problems facing a woman in the nineteenth century. As an unmarried woman who rejected the conventional alternative of becoming a governess, Christina Rossetti devoted her life to her writings in which she expressed the religious and literary principles of the Oxford Movement and the Pre-Raphaelite Movement.
