To study the vast sculptural decoration of the exterior of San Marco, which consists of numerous pieces of sculpture. Although they adorn one of the most famous and important churches in Italy, these works have not been treated in the scholarly literature dealing with the early 15th century since 1930. In addition the material published on these sculptures has been superficial and often contradictory. To produce a full and complete analysis in terms of style, iconography, and relative chronology.
