Historical Anthropological Biography of a North Indian Family, 1550-1947

To begin an historical anthropological study of a North Indian family that attained prominence in the sixteenth century, and whose descendants have been important in Punjab's social and cultural life down to the present. The project will be based on their family papers, and will stress the synthesis and modification of cultural elements in Punjabi society under a succession of culturally diverse regimes.
