To make an analytical study of the moral and political doctrine of the social contract. The project will investigate certain philosophical questions about the structure, distinctive vocabulary, and historically diverse contents of the doctrine, in an effort to locate its substance, to assess its adequacy, and to estimate the strength of objections to it.
