To edit and annotate the diaries of Stopford A. Brooke (1832-1916), eminent nineteenth-century theologian, who began a second career as a historian of English literature in the late 1880s. Emphasis will be on his interest in Ireland as a link with current studies of Yeats and the Irish cultural renaissance, his concern for wider educational opportunities, his interest in the arts. Brooke, in other words, will be presented as a quite modern Victorian.
